Bro. & Sis. Clyde Patton
Bro. Clyde Patton was born in Whitt, TX on March 30, 1918. His family was Baptist, but when a revival was held in Whitt in 1936, he received the gift of the Holy Ghost. He married Otella Johnston on December 11, 1936 in Carlsbad, NM. They had 3 children, Darwin, Dueana and Darlene. In 1943 he moved his family to Fort Worth, TX. He worked in an Assembly of God Church there. He then left that church and went to co-pastor a small, independent church called Prayer Temple, with Bro. Lundy Keller. In April, 1946, Bro. Patton went to a fellowship meeting in Pioneer, TX. After he got home, the Lord let know that the people he had just met were His people and that Bro. Patton had been teaching wrong doctrine. Two weeks later, on November 18-20, 1946, they were having a meeting at Prayer Temple and Bro. William Sowders came to the meeting. Bro. Patton said, "two angels" also came to that meeting, Bro. Pennock and Bro. Harry Stamps (Bro. Thomas Jolly's brother-law). Bro. Sowders told Bro. Patton and Bro. Keller that the church did not need two pastors, so on February 1, 1947, Bro. Patton moved his family to Houston, TX. After about a year they went to little church in Port Houston. The pastor, Bro. Joe Modisette turned the church over to Bro. Patton. in 1947, Bro. Clyde and his brother, Don went to Shepherdsville, KY for the first time for a campmeeting. In 1961, Bro. Patton moved the church to downtown Houston, then in 1970 to 8712 Airline in Houston. In June, 1993, Bro. Patton and Bro. Alfred Daves visited Bro. Thomas Jolly in Belleville, IL. Bro. Herb McCarty Jr. was also in the room. He said, "The love that flowed in the room was amazing! It was such an honor to be there. Bro. Patton and Bro. Daves asked Bro. Jolly to come to Shepherdsville, KY. for the next campmeeting. Bro. Jolly asked me if I would drive him if he was able. I said absolutely. Later Bro. Jolly told me, "The Lord is bringing many of his people back together again. It sounds like something great is going on, on the hilltop. Go to Shepherdsville and don't miss out on what God is doing." It was so evident that the three men had great respect for one another." Before Bro. Patton passed away, he left Bro. Billy Brown as pastor of the church. Bro. Patton passed away on May 2, 1994 at 76 years old. He gave an outstanding message on the Saturday night before he passed away on Monday. Over 1500 people attended his funeral. Sis. Otella passed away on January 5, 2008. |
